莫高窟
The Mogao Caves near Dunhuang are China's greatest treasure of Buddhist art—a thousand-year gallery of murals and sculptures carved into a desert cliff. A controlled, guided visit offers an intimate encounter with Silk Road culture and history.
Book your ticket online at least a week ahead; daily visits are capped at 6,000 and English tours fill fast. Stand at the back of your group in each cave to get a wider view of the murals. Ask your guide to show you the Flying Apsaras in Cave 320—they may skip it otherwise.
