拙政园
Humble Administrator's Garden is Suzhou's most iconic classical garden, a Ming Dynasty masterpiece of water, rock, and architecture. It's a must-visit for understanding Chinese literati culture, but go early to avoid the crowds.
Arrive at 7:30 AM opening time and head straight to the Central Garden—tour groups start at the East, giving you 30 minutes of near-solitude. Stand on the east shore of the lotus pond for the classic borrowed-scenery view with Beisi Pagoda in the distance. Skip the audio guide; wander freely instead.
