January is Guilin's coldest month, with cool, damp conditions and occasional drizzle. It's a quiet time to visit, but the landscape can be misty and atmospheric. Not ideal for outdoor activities, but crowds are minimal.
Pack warm layers, a waterproof jacket, and sturdy shoes for wet paths. A hat and gloves are useful for chilly mornings. Bring an umbrella or raincoat for frequent light rain.
Chinese New Year may fall in January or February, causing travel spikes; book ahead if visiting then. Many smaller restaurants close for the holiday. Expect cold, damp weather, so dress in layers.
