October brings crisp autumn air and falling temperatures. The first week is the National Day Golden Week, one of the busiest travel periods in China.
Pack warm layers, a medium-weight coat, and long pants. Bring a hat and gloves for colder evenings. Comfortable shoes for walking.
Avoid traveling during Golden Week if possible due to massive crowds and high prices. If you must, book everything months in advance. After the holiday, crowds drop significantly.
