Dunhuang Weather in May

May offers warm, comfortable weather with plenty of sunshine. It's one of the best months to visit Dunhuang, as days are warm but not yet scorching. Tourist numbers start to rise but are still manageable.

Pack summer clothing for daytime, but bring a jacket for cool evenings. Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are a must. Comfortable sandals or shoes for walking on sand are recommended.

Labor Day holiday can bring a surge of domestic tourists; expect larger crowds at major sites. Book tickets for Mogao Caves in advance, as daily visitor numbers are limited. Early morning or late afternoon visits help avoid heat and crowds.
