October is cool and pleasant, with crisp air and sunny days. However, the first week is Golden Week, a major Chinese holiday, bringing huge crowds and high prices. After that, it's quieter and a great time to visit.
Warm layers: a jacket, sweater, and long pants. A light scarf for cooler evenings. Sunscreen and sunglasses are still useful.
