January is deep winter in Jiuzhaigou, with freezing temperatures and occasional snow. The park is serene and largely empty, but many trails and lakes may be partially frozen or closed. It's a good time for those seeking solitude and winter scenery, but not ideal for typical sightseeing.
Pack heavy winter clothing: thermal layers, down jacket, insulated pants, waterproof boots, gloves, hat, and scarf. Bring hand warmers and a thermos for hot drinks. Snow traction devices for shoes are recommended.
Check park opening status and trail closures before visiting, as some areas may be inaccessible due to snow. Transportation to Jiuzhaigou may be limited; confirm flight or bus schedules. Be prepared for very cold mornings and evenings.
