May is warm and pleasant, with increasing sunshine and occasional rain. It's a popular month for tourism, especially around the Labor Day holiday, but the weather is generally excellent for outdoor activities.
Pack light clothing: t-shirts, shorts, and a light jacket for evenings. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and an umbrella for sudden showers.
Avoid the first week of May if you dislike crowds, as Labor Day brings domestic tourists. Book attractions and hotels in advance. The weather is great for exploring French Concession and Pudong.
