December is cold and damp, with occasional fog. Snow is rare but possible. The city is festive with holiday lights, and it's a good time for indoor activities and hotpot. Tourist crowds are low except around Christmas and New Year.
Pack warm clothing, a heavy coat, and thermal layers. A scarf, gloves, and a hat are recommended. Bring an umbrella for drizzle and waterproof shoes.
While not a traditional Chinese holiday, Christmas is celebrated in commercial areas, so expect some crowds. New Year's Eve may see local celebrations. Dress warmly as indoor heating is not universal.
