October is cool and comfortable, with less rain than summer. It's one of the best months to visit Chengdu, but the National Day Golden Week (Oct 1-7) brings massive crowds. After the holiday, the city is pleasant and less crowded.
Pack layers, a light jacket or sweater, and a raincoat. Comfortable walking shoes are a must. An umbrella is still useful for occasional showers.
Avoid the first week of October if you dislike crowds; prices for hotels and flights skyrocket. After October 8, crowds thin and prices drop. Book everything well in advance for the holiday period.
